Restoration 101 Workshop

Expired

Description

Join FPC for a workshop exploring some of the basics of restoration and habit practices: we'll focus on how we pick projects and sites, how we intervene, some of the species we regularly work with and the best practices for their ongoing maintenance. This is an entry level training opportunity, where all are welcome and no prior experience is required!

We'll start with a discussion about the site- and weather-specific safety practices, and a basic overview of restoration work in Forest Park. Then over the course of a 1-2 mile hike, we will identify and discuss different species of plants, the management plan of Forest Park, and what we can expect over the coming years. Finally, we will get to work with some of these species, where you'll have the opportunity for plenty of feedback from experienced staff.

This is one restoration workshop in an ongoing series meant to build awareness about Forest Park's trails program and provide training opportunities for our volunteer community.

Please note: This workshop alone will not give you the "go-ahead" to head out with a shovel and start reshaping trails on your own -- but it will help you gain or refine skills you can put to use at future work parties!

When: Saturday, April 22nd, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Snacks, coffee, tools, and gloves will be provided!

Please remember to dress appropriately for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water or any medications you believe you might need while joining us!
