Do you love volunteering with Forest Park Conservancy and want to do even more on your own schedule? Becoming an Independent Volunteer (IV) might be the perfect fit!
IVs help care for Forest Park by completing FPC-approved trail maintenance independently, outside of volunteer work parties. This program is a great way to give back in your free time, get out on the trails, and support FPC’s mission year-round. Participants are required to have attended 2+ public volunteer events with FPC prior to this training.
When: Saturday, October 31st, 10 am - 1 pm.
Where: TBD. Parking is limited. Carpooling is encouraged!
What: We’ll start with a 30-minute overview of the Independent Volunteer program, including training on trail raking and maintenance practices. Then, we’ll spend about 2.5 hours working together on the trails—learning, connecting, and practicing skills in the field. Expect hiking (up to 3 miles) on uneven terrain and physical labor in the forest (up to 2.5 hours).
Sturdy, closed-toe tennis shoes or hiking boots with good traction are required for your safety. Long-sleeves and weather-appropriate layers are also recommended. Make sure to bring a water bottle - many folks find it beneficial to bring a small backpack as well. If you have any allergies, please bring medications in case of an emergency! Training, tools, snacks, coffee, and work gloves will be provided.
